Fun Miracle Fact: A Family Affair in Twelfth Night!

This summer, Miracle Theatre is hitting the road with Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night – and we’ve got a brilliant full-circle story to share!

This year, the delightfully pompous (and famously yellow-stockinged) Malvolio is being brought to life by actor Jowan Jacobs. One of Shakespeare’s most memorable comic characters, Malvolio is best known for his misplaced self-importance, dramatic downfall, and, of course, for being the butt of a particularly cruel joke.

But here’s a twist: this isn’t the first time a Jacobs has stepped into Malvolio’s yellow stockings for Miracle…

Just over 20 years ago, Miracle first toured our adaptation of Twelfth Night. The original Malvolio? Jowan’s uncle, Phil Jacobs. Later in that same tour, the role was taken on by Jowan’s father, Steve Jacobs (pictured).

Now, two decades later, Jowan takes up the mantle – making it a truly special moment for the Jacobs family. It’s incredible to think that this very show, and Miracle itself, has become a thread running through their family story.

What a legacy – and what a pair of stockings to fill!
