The Real Father Christmas: A Celebration of Giving

Join us on Saturday 6 December on The Moor in Falmouth to meet The Real Father Christmas, he will be collecting gifts instead of giving them out. It’s a moment to celebrate the spirit of giving and the difference we can make in others’ lives.

For many, Christmas brings time off, good food, and the comfort of familiar traditions. But for others, it can be one of the hardest times of the year. Across Cornwall, more than 21,000 children live below the poverty line. For families facing financial hardship, the cost of presents, food, and heating can feel overwhelming. A donated gift can ease that strain, helping parents create moments of joy for their children and reminding us that the true spirit of Christmas lies in kindness and connection.

The Real Father Christmas will be on The Moor adorned in festive cheer, ready to receive new, unwrapped gifts suitable for babies through to young adults. These will then be distributed by local charities to families and individuals who need them most this Christmas.

The event was created by Keri, A founding artist of Miracle Theatre, who 14 years ago couldn’t bear the thought of children across Cornwall going without at Christmas. What began as a small act of compassion has grown into an annual tradition that embodies community, care, and shared goodwill.

All gifts collected will be distributed through local charities working directly with those in need, including The Salvation Army, which runs a Christmas Present Appeal providing toys and gifts to children in families under financial strain. WILD Young Parents Project, based in Redruth, who support more than 700 young parents and 500 babies across Cornwall each year. For many of the families they work with, Christmas can be especially challenging. St Petroc’s works to end homelessness in Cornwall, offering safe accommodation, outreach, and support towards independent living. Contributions from The Real Father Christmas help ensure that no one faces Christmas without warmth or comfort.

If you can’t attend on the 6th December in person, you can still take part by donating a the library on the more from 2nd December or by donating directly through the charities’ websites or by helping spread the word.
