At Miracle Theatre, our work is shaped by the places we visit and the communities we meet. From beaches and village greens to town centres and theatres, we’re always aware of the landscapes and environments that make our work possible.
As a touring theatre and arts charity, we’re committed to caring for those places by thinking carefully about how we work, travel and create. We know sustainability is an ongoing journey, and we’re taking practical steps to reduce our impact while continuing to share theatre that brings people together.
Touring is central to what we do, and we work closely with venues and partners to share resources, transport and infrastructure, helping to make touring more efficient.
We reuse and repurpose costumes, sets and props across productions, extending their life and reducing waste. Where possible, we also share equipment and staging with other artists and organisations, supporting creative work beyond our own shows.
We aim to minimise waste across our productions and day-to-day work by recycling materials, avoiding single-use items where practical, and making thoughtful choices about what we buy and use.
In our office and storage spaces, we have taken steps to reduce energy use by reviewing how we work, day to day. We have recently downsized our offices to a smaller, more energy-efficient space and passed on props and equipment to amateur dramatic clubs and small theatres, helping to reduce our storage needs and support reuse within the wider theatre community.
We’re always learning and looking for ways to do better. Our future includes:
Our approach is informed by national guidance from organisations such as Arts Council England, alongside our own values of collaboration, care and shared responsibility.
Audiences and supporters play an important role in helping us reduce our impact. This might include choosing sustainable travel options when coming to a show, supporting our work through donations or membership, or working with us to share resources and ideas.
We don’t have all the answers, but we’re committed to listening, learning and improving. If you have ideas, feedback, or would like to work with us around environmental responsibility, we’d love to hear from you.
