April Events: The Massive Tragedy of Madame Bovary, Percy Pengelly, Little Soldier, and More!
As spring blooms across Cornwall, here at Miracle Theatre Company, we are gearing up for attending a month of exciting performances. From classic literature to local legends, there’s something for everyone this April.
On the 15th of April, the Tolmen Centre in Constantine, Falmouth welcomes Little Soldier, a brilliant company from Dorset. Their show, “Nothing Happens, Twice”, is a mix of physical theatre, puppetry, and live music, and promises to take audiences on an unforgettable adventure. They have brought several shows to the Tolmen Centre in the past – You and Me – a touchingly funny examination of old age – and then their Edinburgh award winning slapstick version of Don Quixote – one of the funniest plays we ever saw!
First up is The Massive Tragedy of Madame Bovary, lovingly derailed by John Nicholson, which is running at the Minack Theatre until the 14th of April. This hilarious and irreverent adaptation of Gustave Flaubert’s classic novel is not to be missed, with stunning costumes and live music.
Another must-see is Cousin Jack’s Percy Pengelly and the Wibble-Wobble, Miracle Theatre’s hilarious retelling of the legend of the Cornish giant. This family-friendly show is running until the 16th of April. Join Percy on his quest to save his village from the wrath of the giant, and enjoy an evening of laughter and music!
Also on the 15th of April, Maker with Rame Community Centre is hosting “Men are Singing”, a unique a cappella performance by a group of male singers. With a repertoire ranging from traditional Cornish songs to modern hits, this promises to be a night of beautiful harmonies and community spirit.
Finally, on the 29th of April, the Poly in Falmouth is hosting “Science Adventures”, a family-friendly show by Coppice Theatre. Join two intrepid explorers as they travel through time and space to discover the wonders of science. With interactive experiments and plenty of laughs, this show is a great way to inspire young minds.
And if you’re in the mood for something a bit different, the LDN Wrestling show is coming to St Ives Guildhall on the 14th of April. Watch as professional wrestlers battle it out in the ring, with all the drama and excitement you’d expect from a live wrestling event.
So whether you’re a fan of classic literature, local legends, or a cappella harmonies, Cornwall has something for you this April. Don’t miss out on these fantastic shows, including the hilarious adaptation of Madame Bovary, Percy Pengelly and the Wibble-Wobble, and Little Soldier’s “Nothing Happens, Twice”.
