November 19 2025
Earlier in November (0225), we had the pleasure of welcoming some of our wonderful volunteers to a special Networking Evening, hosted at Community Roots in Porthtowan. They were joined by ‘Miracle Friends’, as well as some of our venues and promoters. It was brilliant to feel abuzz of enthusiasm, creativity and community spirit all in one room.
The evening started with a hands-on craft activity: making origami Christmas decorations for Miracle Theatre’s Christmas tree at Princess Pavilion this season. This was followed by a delicious homemade dinner of dhal and onion bhajis, lovingly cooked with produce from the Community Roots Garden. A huge thank you to our hosts for such a warm welcome!
As dinner settled, Bill and Sally took to the floor to share exciting updates about what’s next for Miracle Theatre and to offer a heartfelt appreciation for the support from volunteers. Throughout our 45-year history, volunteers have been the lifeblood of Miracle Theatre: showing up in all kinds of weather, helping at venues far and wide to support our productions. We were then treated to a lively scratch performance by Daniel Richards, who told some hilarious stories, based on touring theatre antics from days gone by. All names were changed to protect the potentially embarrassed — though we can confirm only one story required the involvement of emergency services, and we’ve all learned never to accept a sausage sandwich, without first asking a few questions. Luckily, these mishaps happened a long, loooong time ago… or so we’re told!
We rounded off the evening with a screening of Wind, a short film written and directed by Miracle Theatre’s founder, Bill Scott, in 1999. It was a brilliant reminder of the creativity and imagination at the heart of Miracle, and it was wonderful to enjoy it together in such good company. We’ve included a link below so you can watch the film too.
During the event, we reflected on how vital volunteers have been to our journey, celebrated the contributions of our current team, and looked ahead to how we hope to grow and reshape our volunteer programme in the coming year. There’s so much to look forward to, with Peer Gynt in the Summer and a very exciting community project in St Hilary, which is promising to be wonderful opportunity for people to get involved with Miracle Theatre.
As we prepare for our summer and autumn tours, we’d love to welcome more volunteers into the Miracle family. During each show, we rely on help with selling programmes, front of house support, crowd and car park marshalling. In future we’ll be looking for help with a new pop-up café and bar; we have welcomed a large number of community performers into several past productions; with volunteer support we have been sorting through our archives, which are to be housed at Kresen Kernow in Redruth. Your support makes a huge difference, ensuring every performance runs smoothly and every audience member has a great experience, while also providing vital help to the cast and organisation.
If you’re interested in volunteering with us – or know someone who might be – we’d be delighted to hear from you. Whether you’ve helped us before or are thinking about getting involved for the first time, you’re very welcome.
