One of the joys of a Miracle Theatre summer is that no two performances are ever quite the same.

While the cast, costumes and story travel with us, every venue brings its own atmosphere. One evening you might be watching the Trolls beneath ancient castle walls, the next overlooking the sea or surrounded by peaceful gardens as the sun begins to set.

As Peer Gynt heads into the final month of its summer tour, we’re looking forward to performing in some truly special places across the South West.

St Mawes Castle

Perched on the edge of the Fal Estuary, St Mawes Castle offers one of Cornwall’s most spectacular settings for outdoor theatre. Built by Henry VIII, its historic stone walls look out across the water, creating a backdrop that’s every bit as dramatic as the story unfolding on stage.

Restormel Castle

Hidden amongst rolling countryside near Lostwithiel, Restormel Castle is one of Cornwall’s best preserved medieval castles. Its circular walls and peaceful setting make it feel wonderfully tucked away, offering audiences a chance to experience theatre surrounded by centuries of history.

As daylight softens into evening, the castle provides a memorable setting for Peer Gynt’s extraordinary adventures.

Bude Castle

Set within beautiful gardens just a short stroll from the coast, Bude Castle is a favourite summer venue. The relaxed atmosphere, colourful planting and fresh sea air make it the perfect place to gather with friends and family before enjoying an evening of laughter, music and storytelling.

Penlee Park

In the heart of Penzance, Penlee Park offers a peaceful green oasis surrounded by mature trees, colourful gardens and beautifully kept lawns. It’s an inviting place to spread out a blanket, enjoy a picnic and settle in for an evening of theatre.

The relaxed surroundings make it easy to lose yourself in the story while enjoying one of West Cornwall’s most loved parks.

Hartland Abbey

Tucked away on the North Devon coast, Hartland Abbey is one of the South West’s hidden gems. Surrounded by ancient woodland and beautiful gardens, it offers a wonderfully atmospheric setting where nature and history come together.

It’s the perfect backdrop for Peer Gynt, a story that travels through forests, mountains and magical worlds, making this enchanting venue feel like it was made for outdoor theatre.

Carn Marth Amphitheatre

Carved into the hillside above Redruth, surrounded by the rugged beauty of Carn Marth, it offers audiences the chance to experience theatre, where the landscape itself becomes part of the stage. As the evening light falls across the hillside, it’s easy to see why it has become a favourite destination for outdoor theatre.

It’s a setting that will perfectly capture the spirit of Peer Gynt.

Sterts Arts & Environmental Centre

Nestled on the edge of Bodmin Moor, Sterts is one of Cornwall’s best-loved outdoor theatre venues. Surrounded by wide open landscapes and fresh moorland air, it has been welcoming audiences to live performance for decades and is a fitting stop on Miracle’s summer tour.

With its unique stage and vibrant artistic community, Sterts has been bringing together performers and audiences for decades.

Tregrehan Gardens

Sheltered by rolling hills and home to magnificent specimen trees, Tregrehan Gardens is a hidden botanical oasis just outside St Austell. The Carlyon family have lived here since 1565, and the gardens reflect generations of care, curiosity and a passion for plants.

As audiences gather beneath the towering trees and surrounded by lush greenery, it’s easy to feel transported into another world. It’s a beautiful setting for Peer Gynt, where imagination and nature sit comfortably side by side.

Enys Gardens

Believed to be one of Cornwall’s oldest gardens, Enys Gardens is a wonderfully peaceful place to experience outdoor theatre. Nestled within a wooded valley, the gardens offer a sense of tranquillity and seclusion, while the historic buildings quietly tell stories of centuries gone by.

As the evening unfolds, Peer Gynt will have natural setting amongst the ancient trees, open lawns and timeless atmosphere of this much-loved Cornish garden.
