Bill Scott and the Miracle team are some of the warmest folk I have ever worked with so joining the family again for this years Christmas show is a bit like coming home. Bill taught me many moons ago at the Hub theatre school surrounded by many fervent students eager to get lead parts. He managed to be the most calmest supportive teacher in what was essentially a bloodthirsty battle ground! Since then I have been lucky enough to work on several projects with Bill as both an actor and assistant director. We have shared many hilarious rehearsals and tense opening nights together so are well prepared for the chaotic delights of Panto.

We made a Victorian version of Aladdin around 12 years ago, Bill wrote a corker of a show with some priceless comedy moments. It is definitely one of the funniest Miracle projects I have worked on. Many of the rehearsals led to us all weeping with laughter once again! We are setting this version in Falmouth 1942 being performed by the eccentric Willoughby-Brown  family doing their bit for the war effort. As the local community try to struggle through the idea of celebrating yet another desperate Christmas the Willoughby-Browns are preparing an extraordinary one-off performance of their famous homemade pantomimes.

We are having a ridiculous amount of fun working with our multi-talented cast, all of whom have so many surprises hidden up their leotards. The uniqueness of this bunch will ensure an endless supply of brilliantly bizarre characters delivering tightly choreographed comedy, story telling and song, we hope you’ll enjoy it! Kyla Goodey

“We are so pleased to be returning to Falmouth with our Aladdin, for what is rapidly becoming an annual tradition!” says Bill Scott, Miracle’s Artistic Director. “Apart from an anatomically challenged pantomime camel, the most unusual and appealing feature of this production is the ‘show within a show’ element, where as well as enjoying all the usual seasonal fun – “it’s behind you, oh no it isn’t!” – the audience is allowed glimpses into the backstage world, with the Miracle cast playing ‘The Willoughby-Brown Family’ struggling to give a polished performance while the wheels gradually fall off their theatrical cart!”

The show features a brand-new combination of Miracle on-stage acting and musical talent, with Cinderella and Bah Humbug stars Tom Adams, Keri Jessiman, Giles King and Hannah Stephens being joined on the Pavilion stage by Holly Cassidy (Frankenstein, Dr Livingstone, I Presume), Rose McPhilemy (The Cherry Orchard) and regular Miracle face, Benjamin Dyson.

Once again we’ll be enjoying the benefit of Tom Adams’ unique songwriting abilities, a whole new world of costume and set designs from Jude Munden (this will be her 29^th production for Miracle!) and the brilliant physical theatre and choreography skills of co-director Kyla Goodey – four heads are definitely better than one!” Bill Scott

We had extra fun at Miracle HQ last week, when we welcomed the full cast of Aladdin in for a couple of production research and development days.

There is always a fizz  and extra buzz about the place when we all get together at the very beginning of a project. Flutters in the tummy (we all get them!) lots of noisy excitement erupting when we meet those we already know and those meeting for the first time. Eventually, we all settled down, mug in hands to listen to Bill & Kyla talk  through their ambition and ideas for this bright new shiney production – before they then open it up to the table.

And so it begins, discussions quickly move on to games, character improvisation, a dash to the costume store, screening of archive footage of Falmouth taken at Christmas during WW2, dancing, the eating of a Christmas dinner, more dancing and music. Lot of music. Along with some known (and some not so well known songs from the era),  Tom Adams, has begun writing some original music that we expect will have us all humming over the next couple of months.

So the bones of  Aladdin characters have time now to gently develop and inform Bill’s writing over the next couple of weeks.

Full rehearsals start at the beginning of November, continuing straight through to opening night – we’ll keep you updated on all fabulous things going on behind the scenes right here!

It is Christmas 1943 and the Willoughby-Browns have agreed to share one of their legendary homespun pantomimes with the people of Cornwall. Expect to be moved to tears of laughter by eccentric singing, exotic dancing and breath-taking magical effects as the family and their staff summon all their varying degrees of talent to retell the story of Aladdin and his wonderful lamp.
